When Did Self-Sacrifice Become a Spiritual Virtue?
Or Why I Refused to Become a Professional Waiting Meme.
During my two-and-a-half-year Twin Flame journey, I started noticing something strange.
The more I read about the Divine Feminine, the more responsibilities seemed to belong to her.
I would open social media, and it felt as if people were shouting through megaphones from every direction.
You should inspire!
You are responsible for the healing!
You should wait!
Every time I read that, I pictured the famous Waiting Meme sitting quietly with folded hands.
No, thank you.
You should understand!
You should surrender!
You should love unconditionally!
You should show the way!
Excuse me...
Is anyone else expected to do anything?
One day, I asked myself a very simple question.
What is the Divine Masculine expected to do?
So I searched for the answer.
The internet had plenty of mysterious explanations.
"You have no idea what he's doing behind the scenes..."
"He's working on himself in another dimension..."
"You just can't see it yet..."
Of course.
I couldn't see him at all.
I don't even look at his social media anymore.
But here's what I do believe.
When people genuinely want to be in your life, they eventually show up in it.
Not through mysterious spiritual explanations.
In person.
And if they don't...
Does it really matter what they're supposedly feeling somewhere behind the scenes?
Maybe that makes me a cynical Divine Feminine.
I'm okay with that.
I love myself exactly as I am.
And the truth is...
Unfortunately, none of the things I genuinely love appear on that famous list.
I simply love life.
I love honesty.
And white chocolate with whole hazelnuts.
I'm not questioning anyone's spiritual beliefs.
People find meaning in different paths.
What I am questioning is any interpretation that consistently asks one person to carry the emotional responsibility for two.
Because that isn't balance.
It's an expectation.
A spiritual path should help you become more yourself, not less.
It should encourage growth.
Honesty.
Accountability.
Mutual respect.
Not endless self-sacrifice.
If your soul has free will, then your soul also has the right to say no.
No spiritual belief removes our responsibility to respect another person's freedom.
Or our own well-being.
The only thing I truly believe is that my soul has its own voice.
Listening to that voice is my purpose.
Not someone else's expectations.
Not someone else's timeline.
Not someone else's fears.
If following my soul leads me toward writing, creating, learning, loving, laughing, and building a peaceful life...
Then that is exactly where I intend to go.
Even if the whole world disagrees.
Protecting your peace is not a failure of love.
It may be one of its healthiest expressions.
If one person's mission is always to wait, heal, surrender, and understand...
...while the other person is never expected to grow, choose, or take responsibility...
It is worth asking whether that expectation is truly balanced.
Perhaps the purpose of the soul is not to disappear for someone else's journey.
Perhaps it is to become fully who it came here to be.
That is why I struggle with spiritual narratives that can be interpreted in a way that encourages women to betray their own inner voice.
Narratives that suggest surrender means abandoning yourself.
Narratives that call self-sacrifice a compromise.
Narratives that convince women they should tolerate disrespect because "your souls chose this before you were born."
I don't remember my soul agreeing to sacrifice itself.
Not in this life.
Not in any other.
A woman doesn't exist for the purpose of inspiring someone else.
If she inspires people simply by being herself, that's beautiful.
But it should never become her responsibility.
Perhaps the first person a woman should inspire...
...is herself.
To become happier.
Healthier.
More peaceful.
More abundant.
A woman doesn't exist to show another adult the way.
Every person is responsible for walking their own path.
She doesn't have to make that her life's purpose.
She simply has to be herself.
To live the life that keeps her soul in a state of joy.
Peace.
And authenticity.
I wish we talked about that more often.
Unfortunately...
those conversations rarely go viral.
But whether they do or not, I'll keep writing them.
Because my peace...
...is no longer negotiable.
